I’ve only got a short story about Hallelujah, but maybe that’s how I’ll start this site, with a short story. First off, Brandi Carlile does an amazing version of it. The song has been done more that a few times (originally by Leonard Cohen), and I think even more since Brandi did it; at least I notice it more. But I think it’s just an excellent rendition of the song!!
So (at the time of this story) Kelly just got an iPod and a few days later (and I’m paraphrasing) and she said “I just finally bought my first song on iTunes, guess what song?”. So I replied, “Hallelujah by Brandi Carlile, if it was only one song, what else could it be?!?” and I was right, what else could it be? If she’d said it was an album, I’d be hard pressed to guess, but one song (and I still think iTunes might be the only place to get this track). So if you’re a Brandi fan, it’s time to pick up this single…
Brandi’s first album is one of my favorites, the self-titled “Brandi Carlile“. I first heard it at Barnes and Nobel playing over the speaker system, I went home and looked her up and I sadly discovered she’d just played less than 10 miles from my house the night before. But she was playing a small club in Ann Arbor (The Blind Pig) in the next few months and so I picked up tickets; Mark and I saw her later that fall and I think I’ve been to see her four more times since…
